Focus and Scope
BORNEO Journal of Engineering and Applied Science (BJEAS) publishes high-quality original research and critical reviews that advance engineering practice and applied science, with an emphasis on work that addresses the technical, environmental, and industrial challenges of tropical and resource-based regions. The journal is deliberately multidisciplinary: it welcomes contributions from any branch of engineering and applied science provided the work is methodologically rigorous, reproducible, and of demonstrable practical or theoretical value.
The scope of BJEAS includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:
- Civil and Infrastructure Engineering — structural engineering, geotechnics on peat and soft soils, transportation and pavement engineering, hydrology and water resources, river and coastal engineering, construction management, building materials, and sustainable infrastructure.
- Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering — thermodynamics and heat transfer, fluid mechanics, machine design, materials and metallurgy, maintenance engineering, manufacturing processes, mechatronics, and automotive technology.
- Electrical, Electronics and Power Engineering — power systems and distribution, power electronics, control systems and instrumentation, telecommunication, embedded systems, electrical machines, and smart grid technology.
- Informatics and Computer Engineering — software engineering, data science, artificial intelligence and machine learning, computer networks and cybersecurity, information systems, Internet of Things, geographic information systems, and digital transformation.
- Chemical and Process Engineering — reaction engineering, separation processes, biomass and bioprocess technology, petrochemical and coal processing, corrosion, and process safety.
- Energy and Renewable Energy — solar, hydro, biomass, and hybrid energy systems, energy efficiency and audit, energy storage, energy policy and techno-economic analysis.
- Environmental and Applied Earth Science — water and wastewater treatment, solid and hazardous waste management, air quality, mine reclamation and land rehabilitation, environmental monitoring, climate adaptation, and peatland management.
- Mining and Geological Engineering — mining methods and planning, geomechanics, mineral processing, mine safety, and post-mining land use.
- Industrial and Systems Engineering — production planning, quality engineering, ergonomics and occupational safety, supply chain and logistics, operations research, and engineering economics.
- Marine, Naval and Logistics Technology — ship design and production, river and inland waterway transport, port engineering, and marine systems.
- Applied Science and Engineering Education — applied physics, applied chemistry, applied mathematics and statistics for engineering, laboratory and workshop innovation, and vocational engineering education technology.
BJEAS particularly encourages submissions that report field-validated results, industry collaboration, appropriate technology for developing regions, or datasets and case studies from Borneo, Indonesia, and comparable tropical environments. Purely descriptive reports without analysis, undergraduate coursework, product promotion, and manuscripts outside engineering and applied science will be rejected without review.
